Southwest Missouri Family protests against bullies

Updated:

A Southwest Missouri family is calling for action against bullies in their school district.

They claim their son was harassed on the school bus by older students, and school leaders failed to stop the bullying.

Six year old Landon Pittman used to ride the school bus to and from school until his parents say they had no choice but to pull him off.

Landon says other students were harassing him on the school bus.

"First they started to pull my jacket over my head, and slap my head on the window, and threw stuff at me," said Landon.

Landon's mother believes high school students on the bus were targeting her child.

"They even went as far as taking his jacket and holding it over his head, and told him to sacrifice himself so he can tell them what Heaven feels like," said Stephanie Pittman.

The family claims the bullying went on for three months, and each time the family reported the incidents, but they were overlooked.

"There's got to be a zero tolerance policy out there and it has to be done or somebody going to get hurt," said Landon's Father Matthew Pittman.

Neosho's Assistant Superintendent Tim Crawley says the district has anti-bullying programs in place and a zero tolerance policy for bullying.

"We encourage them [students] to come and talk to us and the parents come talk to us so we can address those issue we certainly don't want bullying in the district,"said Crawley.

The district says they will investigate, starting with security footage on board the school bus.

"All we need is to be contacted give us a date, give us a route. We don't need a specific time just a.m. or p.m.," said Crawley.

The family says they admitted Landon to a local hospital for depression. He spent 10 days there before being released.

"It tore me up to have to send him away and figure out what was going on with him and everything the psychologist told us," said Matthew.

The family has since started an online initiative against school bullying.
