Joplin homeless offered resources to become independent

Updated:

About 30 vendors set up booths at a special event for area homeless.  The event was called Project Homeless Connect.

It took place at Joplin's Central Christian Center.

Vendors helped the homeless connect with resources to help them become independent.  Resources included ways of getting financial assistance and housing opportunities.

Free flu shots were also offered by Joplin's Community Clinic, to help the homeless ensure a healthy impression for possible job interviews.

"So they can go out and look for work, so they can find jobs, so they can become housed and put a healthy face forward, so to speak," says Robin Smith with the Economic Security Corporation.

Today's event was sponsored by the Economic Security Corporation in Joplin.
