Local United Way receives $25,000 donation

Missouri Gas Energy donated $25,000 towards the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas.

The natural gas distribution company used money from a trust fund with Laclede Gas Company, who owns Missouri Gas Energy.

United Way workers say the money is desperately needed to help counsel and support an increased number of local domestic abuse victims and teens who are pregnant.

"I think we're just now seeing the stress of the storm, along with everything else that's stressful.  We have issues with our economy, we have job loss, and we also have the normal things that are happening across the country.  Take that, times the recovery of people living through the storm, also now dealing with the post traumatic stress of what they went through and what they saw," says Bev Crespino-Graham with the United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas.

The United Way says demands are up, while donations are down.
