Super Pet Adoption Bowl and tail-gate party at Joplin Humane Society

Updated:

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED JANUARY 29, 2014 BY THE JOPLIN HUMANE SOCIETY

Joplin Humane Society is hoping to find some “super” homes for the dogs and cats on the upcoming Big Game Day Weekend! It will be an exciting Pet Adoption Bowl with the JHS Kitty Seahawks taking on the JHS Doggie Broncos! The winner will be determined by the number of adoptions, but ALL adopted pets will be winners!

The contest begins at 1pm Friday, January 31 and runs through 4pm Sunday, February 2nd. Each adoption will be a “Touchdown” and the “Score” will be announced over the loudspeaker. Adopters will have the opportunity to earn their “team” an extra point by donating $1 to Katara’s Fund, our medical fund for needy shelter pets. Diehard Broncos and Seahawks fans who want to support their teams even if they cannot adopt a pet can donate $5 and earn their team a “Field Goal”.

“Even the adoption fee is going to be a contest,” said Lysa Boston, Shelter Manager. “All adoption fees will be discounted from the regular $85 to $50, but adopters will have a chance to “score” a better price with a bean bag toss!” Boston explained that depending on where the bean bag lands, the adoption fee could be lowered to either $35 or $15. “It’s a great way to have some fun in keeping with the football spirit of the weekend and help our shelter pets, too!” Boston added that all pets will be spayed or neutered, current with all age appropriate vaccine including rabies, dewormed, treated for fleas and microchipped.

The “game” starts Friday, but the “Tail-Gate Party” kicks off Saturday at 11am. Visitors are invited to join the party and enjoy delicious seven layer dip, homemade chili chips, salsa, soda and yummy desserts. “Our party will run through 3pm, or until all of the goodies are gone,” said Connie Andrews, Shelter Services Manager. “We hope to see people dressed in their game day best!”

The Joplin Humane Society is open Friday 1-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. All adoptions will require an approved adoption application by families that are committed to providing forever homes!
