KDOT waits for more road treatment supplies

Updated:

Many crews have been out pre-treating roads since last night.  It'll be a never ending job, at least for the time being.  Right now, there's slush and ice on many roadways.

KDOT uses a mixture of salt and sand on the roads.  But of course, roadways are still slick.  Workers at KDOT say they still have enough product to treat the roads and highways.  But an important reserve has been on hold for some time now.

"If we run out in one sub area, we can go to another sub area and grab theirs and bring it back here and use it.  So, materials-wise for the state, if we run into problems in this part of the state, I can go anywhere else in the part of the state," says Wayne Nelson with KDOT.

"We have quite a bit of tons ordered that we haven't received.  And its been on order for a couple of weeks now, two or three weeks.  So it's going to be a little bit tough.  And I believe there's just so much in demand for it right now, it's a little hard for us to get," says Nelson.
