Residents react over Rohr's release

Change is inevitable and it may lead to questions. Such is the case in regard to the release of Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr.

After nine years in Joplin City Office, his release was decided in a special meeting with City Council on Tuesday. While the official reason was not disclosed, it has stirred various reactions from the city.

"It just seems to be so hard in today's politics," said Mary McEwen, Joplin resident. "So whatever he did, I'm just curious as to the severity of the issue. What would one have to do to get fired?"

Residents for the oust of the city manager said they are concerned over possible issues that were building amongst Rohr and city officials. Several residents who chose to remain anonymous said they felt he was hard to work with.

Many against his release said he made tremendous contributions to the city, in particular local business.

"It seems liked with the trolley cars and the third Thursdays he was an influence on all that," said Linda Williams, Joplin business owner.

"I really felt like he was doing a good job," said Jan Burres, Joplin business manager.

"But amidst a sea of questions, one thing is certain: Joplin residents look to a positive future.

"I hope that his successor learns from the issues and just I hope tomorrow is a better day," said McEwen.
