MSSU students give back with free tax assistance

Updated:

With tax season  here, a group Missouri Southern students look to make the task of filing a bit easier and less stressful.

Locals gathered at MSSU on Saturday to meet with the volunteer income tax assistance team. Comprised of accounting majors mostly in their junior or senior year, the group provides tax services to individuals or families who make less than $51,000 annually. According to one volunteer student, the service is simple and rewarding.

"All people have to do is just walk in," said Ace Pelham, a student at MSSU. "We'll have some forms for them to fill out and they fill that out. And then they come back with us. We ask them some questions. We fill out their tax return and they get sent off to someone else. And that person will go over it and make sure everything is right and we haven't missed anything on our side."
