Updated:

On Saturday, an auction was held to sell off plots of land of Treece, Kansas, a former town officially removed from the map in 2012 after being considered hazardous to live because of mining contamination. The Environmental Protection Agency bought out plots of land to auction off. According to Bob Jurgens, section chief of the Treece Voluntary Relocation Project, a total of 10 plots of land were sold on Saturday, totaling $12,199. Jurgens said the majority of the plots were bought by neighboring land owners.
