Second annual Battle for the Rings coming to MSSU

Elite Championship Cheer and Dance is making finalpreparations to host its second annual Battle for the Rings National Cheer andDance competition scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, February 15-16, 2014 atthe Leggett and Platt Athletic Center on the campus of Missouri Southern StateUniversity.

 

Elite Championships Cheer and Dance, in cooperation withthe Joplin Sports Authority and Midwest Cheer and Dance Association, will hostthe event, starting at 10 a.m. Doors open at 9 a.m., admission both days are$10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens, ages 4-under are free.

 

The two-day competition will include 25 teams ranging fromhigh school to youth cheer and gymnastics organizations with over 400 athletesparticipating. Team and individuals championships will be crowned.

 

Proceeds from the Battle for the Rings National Cheer andDance competition will benefit Children's Miracle Network in Joplin.

 

With performances from multiple age groups, teamsparticipating from Kansas include Rock Dynasty from Tonganoxie and the LawrenceLegends; Oklahoma teams include the Oklahoma Twisters from Norman and MiamiElite; Missouri teams include Champion Cheer from Lebanon and Elite Athleticsfrom Springfield.

 

"The success of our first event (November 2012) with over2,000 fans in attendance and the response from the participants gave us themomentum for this event," said Nita Hanes, director of Elite Championships.
