Labette County teen killed in crash

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF LABETTE COUNTY SHERIFF ROBERT D. SIMS

On February 13, 2014 at 07:48 hrs. 911 Dispatch received a report of a one vehicle injury accident, located on Pratt Road north of 16000 Road.

As emergency responders responded to the location, it was further reported the vehicle had caught fire.  Upon arrival, the vehicle was found to be fully engulfed.  Once the fire was extinguished, responders found the vehicle to be occupied by one individual (driver).  Extrication was necessary to remove the driver from the vehicle.  The driver, 14 years of age of Parsons, sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

Officers determined the vehicle, 2007 Ford Mustang, was traveling southbound on Pratt Road, when the vehicle slid into the west ditch, struck a tree, and then caught fire.

The incident remains under investigation by the Labette County Sheriff Dept.
