Track and field teams head to Oklahoma to take part in Oklahoma Baptist Invite

The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field programs will be in action this Saturday as the teams travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take part in the Oklahoma Baptist Invite held at the Mosier Indoor Track Facility on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.

The Southern men, already with two automatic qualifying marks to nationals under their belts, come into the meet ranked seventh nationally and tops among MIAA teams, putting them amongst the most elite track programs in the country. Nebraska-Kearney is ranked eighth, while Pittsburg State is ranked ninth. Lincoln is 12th and Southwest Baptist is 15th, giving the MIAA five teams ranked in the top 15 in Division II.

The men have seven individual and one team provisional mark so far, with both Jeff Fraley in the 200m and Brady Melugin in the pole vault claiming automatic qualifying marks. Fraley is the top ranked athlete in the 200m with a seed time of 21.63, while Melugin's mark of 16-09.25 ranks second. Fraley also ranks third in the 60m with a time of 6.76.

Eric Schott ranks tenth int he 5k, while Michael Juergens is fifth in the pole vault. Darion Boure and Clark Tanksley rank 13th and 21st, respectively in the triple jump, while the distance medley relay team ranks 27th.

On the women's side, the Lions are just outside of the top 25. The team has eight individual provisional marks and one team mark so far on the season.

Kylie Cornman is ranked fifth in the shot put and 15th in the weight throw. Amber White is ranked 14th in the 400m and 24th in the triple jump, while Brittani Reagan ranks 17th in the long jump and 13th in the triple.

Whitney Hardy ranks 11th in the high jump, while Kindra Emberton ranks 27th in the 800m. The DMR team of Emberton, White, Sydney Potts and Emily Harris ranks 15th nationally.

Events begin at 11 am tomorrow with both the field and running events taking place at the same time.
