HAYS, KS - Fort Hays State University pulled away in the final 20 minutes of play to hand Pittsburg State University its fifth consecutive loss with an 87-69 decision Saturday (Feb. 15) at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Gorillas (7-15, 3-12 MIAA) trailed 42-39 to the Tigers (20-4, 11-4 MIAA) before FHSU's Achoki Moikobu hit a 3-pointer as the first-half buzzer sounded.
FHSU took that three-point momentum to the locker room and the Tigers continued their push in the second half by outscoring the Gorillas, 23-8,over the first nine minutes of the second half to take control of the contest.
Jake Bullard led four Pitt State players in double figures with 19 points. Devon Branch added 15 points, while Josiah Gustafson and Conner Kjer scored 12 apiece.
James Fleming led all scorers with 20 points for the Tigers. Dwayne Brunson finished the game with 17 points, while Moikobu added 16.
Pitt State will continue its four-game road swing with a trip to Tahlequah, Okla., to face Northeastern State University next Wednesday (Feb. 19).
