McKinley Elementary Third Grade Wins “Bird Action Pledge” Contest

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY WILDCAT GLADES CONSERVATION & AUDUBON CENTER

McKinley Elementary Third Grade Wins “Bird Action Pledge” Contest

Third grade students at McKinley Elementary will be the recipients of a bird feeder and bag of birdseed for their school for having the highest percentage (55%) of participants turning in Bird Action Pledge cards to Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center.

As participants in the Audubon Center’s Winter Wonderland programming last fall, Joplin R-8 third-graders learned about how to make their homes and community a safer and healthier place for birds. By signing the pledge cards, the students promised actions such as planting native plants and shrubs in their yard, keeping their bird feeders and baths clean to prevent disease, and to keep cats indoors.

The feeder and seed will be presented to McKinley’s third grade students on Friday, February 21 at 11am at the school.

Registration is required for all programs at the Audubon Center. Space is limited and fills up quickly. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For more information about the Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center or to register for programs, please call (417) 782-6287 or log on to our website at www.wildcatglades.audubon.org.
