PSU Women ranked 6th in first regional rankings

Updated:
POSTED ON BEHALF OF PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA released its first set of regional rankings on Wednesday (Feb. 19). The Gorilla women's basketball team is currently sixth in the Central Region.

The regional rankings help to determine selections for the NCAA Championship. Three automatic qualifiers (one each from the MIAA, Northern Sun and Great American Conferences) and the next five highest ranked teams in the region will be selected for the Central Regional Championship. The Central Region Champion will then move on to the NCAA Elite Eight in Erie, Pa.

PItt State should be helped by its strength of schedule. The team has or will play five of the nine other teams in the rankings, along with three others (Indianapolis, Truman and Montana State-Billings) that are ranked in other regions.
