NEO’s President’s Partners proudly fund textbook bank program

Miami, Oklahoma – Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 – The President’s Partners program at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), has again proudly funded the textbook bank program to help ease the burden for many students who are struggling to pay rising education costs.

Implemented in 2010, the textbook bank features more than 30 books that are on loan in the NEO library. The program is immensely popular with students, especially during the first few weeks of the semester while many students await their financial aid.

“The textbook bank has become one of the most popular collections in the NEO Library. I know it makes the first few weeks of class less stressful for many of our students who are still awaiting financial aid,” said Sloane Brown, director of library services. “NEO's President’s Partners have created something truly invaluable in funding this project.”

As part of the program, a student may utilize the book inside the library for up to two hours at a time. Many students photocopy their homework assignments, but others find a quiet spot and study.

In order to select which books get added to the collection, the NEO Information Technology Department identifies classes with the highest enrollment. Depending on the level of funding, the library purchases as many of the textbooks as possible. Not every textbook gets purchased, but many are added each semester.

NEO’s President’s Partners support many programs and initiatives on the NEO campus. From sending students to study abroad and funding NEO’s Top Ten Freshmen scholarships to faculty development and campus beautification projects, the program has provided more than $200,000 in funding since 2009.
