Updated:

Pittsburg - The Pittsburg State softball team (5-3) split games of a doubleheader with Arkansas Tech (5-3) on Saturday (February 22) at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas won the first game, 6-4, before falling, 7-1, in game two.

Pitt State scored its six runs on 10 hits and two Golden Sun errors in game one. Arkansas Tech scored four runs on seven hit and one Gorilla error.

Errors proved costly for the Gorillas in the second game, as the Golden Suns scored their seven runs on 11 hits and four Pitt State errors. The Gorillas had only two hits in the game.

Jordan Bradshaw, Alex Perez and Cheslyn Mitchell each had two hits for Pitt State in the first game. Bradshaw was 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, a double, a home run and two RBI. Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Perez was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Sam Grove pitched the complete game for the Gorillas and gave up only one earned run. She struck out three batters and walked only one. Her record improves to 3-0 on the season.

In game two, Nicole Nease was 1-for-1 with a double an RBI and two walks. Bradshaw had the team's second hit.

Haleigh Sills started the second game for the Gorillas and pitched 3.2 innings in the loss. Only two of the six runs she gave up were earned. She struck out three batters. Her record now falls to 1-2. Grove added 2.1 relief innings and gave up three hits and one earned run. Tiffany Brown pitched the final innings and gave up one hit and struck out one batter.

Arkansas Tech scored first in game one in the top of the first inning. Shanna Davidson hit a three-run home run with two outs in the inning. All runs were unearned because of an error earlier in the inning.

The Gorillas answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Brenna George reached on an error and used her speed to advance to second to lead off the inning. Bailey Letts followed with a solid base hit through the left side. A Brown base hit scored George and a Kylie Guthier ground out got her an RBI as Letts crossed home.

Neither team scored again until the top of the third when Arkansas Tech's Ashley Savage led off the inning with a home run, putting the Gorillas in the hole, 4-2.

Pitt State got its chance to come back in the bottom of the fourth. Perez led off the inning with a base hit through the right side. She scored on a Mitchell triple that was smacked down the left field line. Devon McCreath came in to pinch run for Mitchell and third and scored as Bradshaw hit a one-out double to right center to tie the game at 4-4.

Nicole Nease started a two-out rally in the fifth that gave the Gorillas a one-run lead. Nease churned up the PSU offense with a double and scored on a Perez base hit.

The final run of the game came on a lead off home run by Bradshawin the sixth. Her hit over the centerfield fence gave the Gorillas the 6-4 lead.

The Gorillas scored their only run of the second game in the first inning. Brown earned a two-out walk and scored from first on a Nease double.

Arkansas Tech captialized on six hits and two Gorilla errors to score six runs in the fourth inning for the 6-1 lead.

The Golden Suns added a final insurance run in the sixth to polish off the 7-1 win.
