City of Miami partners with INTEGRIS Baptist Regional to Provide Wellness Opportunities for City Employees

NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI, OKLAHOMA

(Miami, OK) - The City of Miami recently conducted its annual employee health and wellness fair. There were 156 employees, retirees and spouses who participated in the fair. The health fair was conducted as a cooperative local effort between the City of Miami and INTEGRIS Baptist Regional. There were also 36 second year students and 3 second year instructors from the NEO Nursing Program that assisted during the fair. Many local vendors also took time to setup booths and share their information with the health fair participants.

“We are honored to partner with the City of Miami in offering wellness strategies to improve the health of their employees. This marks the 3rd year INTEGRIS Baptist Regional has hosted the employee health and wellness fair. More than 40 INTEGRIS employees participated to educate City of Miami employees on how they can achieve a healthier lifestyle. Important health screenings were also offering to employees such as cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, peripheral artery disease, skin cancer, vein, depression, stress, and a fitness assessment,” said Jordan Cash, F.A.C.H.E., President INTEGRIS Baptist Regional Health Center. “The City of Miami is to be commended for creating a culture of health and encouraging employee participating in the wellness program through incentives, frequent communication and promotion of the event. Our mission is to improve the health of the people and the communities we serve. The City of Miami health and wellness fair is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the important of health screens and preventative care to our community” Cash added.

Health Plan Participants (City employees, dependants over 18 YOA, retirees, and spouses) who participated in the wellness testing received a credit toward their 2014 year health plan deductible. There were also other incentives awarded by a random drawing. These incentives included bicycles with helmets, gym memberships, gift cards, season pool passes to the Miami Municipal Pool and additional deductible credits.

Human Resources Director Kim Horn stated, “The annual City of Miami Employee health and wellness fair is the biggest event we conduct to promote employee wellness initiatives. This year we’ve also implemented quarterly employee Lunch & Learns to communicate timely health information to our employees. Our mission is to promote educational programs that will foster the wellness of City employees. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of the City Manager and City Council who realize the value of promoting employee health and wellness. We’re also very thankful to the local vendors who participated in this year’s fair.”
