Pitt State Women Finish Fourth at MIAA Indoor Championships

Joplin - The Pittsburg State University women's indoor track & field team finished fourth overall at the 2014 MIAA Indoor Championships Sunday (Mar. 2) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

The Gorillas compiled 59 points in the meet. Lincoln University captured its fourth straight conference crown with 153 points. Missouri Southern State University was a distant second with 123.5 points, followed by the University of Central Missouri with 82 points.

Senior Jessica Macy followed up an MIAA runner-up performance in the 5,000 meters Saturday with an MIAA runner-up effort in the 3,000 meters Sunday. She finished the race in 10:00.55.

Junior Ramie Grayson placed fifth in the long jump (18-9.25), sixth in the 60 meters (7.68) and sixth in the 200 meters (25.44) in a busy day of action. Freshman Hannah DeVries placed seventh in the 3,000 meters (10:19.35).

On Saturday, freshman Heather Glenn captured the MIAA title in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-6.25.  Sophomore Cassie Caswell placed fourth in the weight throw (55-8.5), while sophomore Darien Stancell finished fifth in the discipline (54-10.25). Freshman Deja Snell picked up a point with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump (37-7.25).

     University of Arkansas men’s track and field assistant coach Travis Geopfert will be the head coach of Team USA at this weekend’s Thorpe Cup. The combined-event showcase pits the United States against Germany and will be contested July 26-27 in Marburg, Germany. This will mark the sixth time Geopfert has represented the United States at the Thorpe Cup.More >>
