Branch Named MIAA Player of the Week

Updated:

Kansas City, MO - Pittsburg State University junior guard Devon Branch was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Player of the Week Monday (Mar. 3).

Branch (6-6, 180) averaged 26.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a pair of must-win games for the Gorillas last week.

The Aberdeen, Md., native scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in an 84-76 home win over Emporia State Wednesday (Feb. 26). Needing a win and some outside help to qualify for the MIAA Postseason Tournament, Branch scored a career-high 34 points on 14 of 19 shooting against Washburn Saturday (Mar. 1). He hit a go-ahead jumper with nine seconds in regulation, but the Ichabods tied the game and eventually won, 92-90, in overtime.

For the week, Branch shot 65.6 percent from the field (21-32) and 84.6 percent from the free throw line (11-13). He also averaged 3.0 assists per game.

Branch finished the season averaging a team-leading 20.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
