All-MIAA Men's Basketball Team Released

Northwest Missouri’s DeShaun Cooper has been named the MIAA Player of the Year as the All-MIAA teams were released today by the conference office. Robert Corn, in his final season as Missouri Southern’s head coach, led his team to the third seed in the MIAA Tournament and has been named the Coach of the Year.

Cooper was 11th in the league in scoring averaging 16.6 points per game and was seventh in the league with 4.2 assists per contest. He was named a unanimous first team all-conference selection and led his team to a 16-3 record in league play and the second seed in the MIAA tournament.

He is joined as a unanimous first team selection by Craig Nicholson who led the MIAA in assists with 7.5 per game and was fifth in the league in scoring. Joining those two on the first team were Central Oklahoma’s Josh Gibbs, a repeat from last season, Missouri Southern’s Marquis Addison and Central Missouri’s Dillon Deck.

Gibbs averaged a double-double this season as he was third in scoring at 22.9 points and led the league in rebounding with 11.3 per game. Addison was 10th in the league in scoring averaging 16.7 points and was fifth in the league in free throw percentage. Deck was second in the league in field goal percentage at .646 and was ninth in the league in blocked shots.

The MIAA Defensive Player of the Year was Paul Bunch who led the league with 2.7 blocked shots per game. The MIAA Freshman of the Year was Zach Schneider of Northwest Missouri who was fourth in the league in three-point percentage and ninth in the league in three-pointers made

The MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament gets underway with the first four games on campus sites hosted by the higher seed. Tonight's winning teams will advance to Municipal Auditorium to face the tournament's top four seeds on March 7-9.
