Southeast Kansas KanCare members learn about new initiative

Southeast Kansas residents gather to learn more about a new initiative under KanCare, for those with chronic health conditions.

The Health Homes program is a system for Medicaid consumers that offers help for various persistent conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and mental illness.

Officials from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment are hosting meetings to educate consumers on benefits.

Officials say the Health Homes program is offered at no additional cost and works with consumers' current health care services

"The KanCare managed care organizations will be identifying members eligible for the program," said program analyst Samantha Ferencik. "Any member that is identified as eligible for the program will be automatically enrolled. If someone decides that a health home is not for them they can easily fill out a form or make a phone call and opt out of the program."

The program will be implemented on July first. Individuals who qualify will receive letters shortly before.

For a list of upcoming meetings, visit the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
