Volunteer Kansas Accepting Applications for Seed Grants: $500 Grants to be Awarded to Organizations in Kansas Wishing to Engage Volunteers in Service Projects

WICHITA, Kan., March 5, 2014 –Volunteer Kansas is offering organizations in Kansas the opportunity to apply for Seed Grants in the amount of $500. Grants are given to help support service projects that will engage volunteers. This is the third year Volunteer Kansas has made Seed Grants available.

“We’ve found there are times when the absence of a little bit of cash is the only thing standing in the way of a group of volunteers taking on a service project that would greatly benefit others. Volunteer Kansas Seed Grants help get projects started and

ready to grow just like the seeds so many of our Kansas farmers use,” said Volunteer Kansas Executive Director Nola Brown.

Five grants will be awarded in April for use before August of 2014. The application process is simple. Those interested in applying for a grant should email the following information to contact@volunteerkansas.org by April 15:

  1. A paragraph about the organization, including contact information.
  2. Up to three paragraphs explaining the project, how volunteers will participate, and who it will benefit.
  3. A budget detailing how the $500 grant will be used.

Projects chosen for grants require listings as volunteer opportunities on volunteerkansas.org. Projects must utilize at least 20 volunteers. Winners are required to post before, during and after project photos/videos to the Volunteer Kansas fan page on Facebook.

Organizations looking to make an even larger impact are encouraged to also apply for the Kansas Volunteer Commision’s mini-grants; applicants could consider combining grant funds for one large project or leveraging both grants for a multi-day/multi-project effort. KVC mini-grants can be found by visiting www.KanServe.org.

2013 Volunteer Kansas Seed Grant recipients and service projects included:

  1. Friends of the Historic Fresh Air Baby Camp, Inc. (Wichita) - Fresh Air Baby Camp Windows Workday
