Pittsburg Farmers' Market - ALMOST SPRING UPDATE

The official market season is due to start up April 19th, 2014, in our NEW pavilion-style building at our NEW address of 11th and Broadway in Pittsburg, Kansas. Our typical hours will be Saturday mornings 7:30 - 12:00 noon, with some Wednesday or other special days throughout the season as announced.

This will be an exciting season -- NEW building, NEW address, NEW prospects for broadening our audience and our services. Think about joining us, either as a vendor or as a shopper. You will be surprised at how much we have grown and improved for this season and for our future.

Anyone interested in joining our Pittsburg Farmers Market should plan to attend our Spring Meeting, where you meet other vendors, ask questions, and turn in your signed contracts. We will be meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at 6:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church at 415 N Pine St. (enter from west/rear parking area) in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Our 2014 contracts are available on our facebook page or attached to this email. Anyone interested in joining our market must agree to these rules, sign the contract, and turn in your market membership fees.

Mark this on your calendars and plan to attend -- Southeast Kansas Regional Farmers' Market Vendor Workshop, March 29th, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at the First Christian Church, 705 East Centennial, Pittsburg, Kansas. Advance registration (by March 21) is $15 and this covers snacks, lunch, speaker fees, and materials. Registration is accepted at the door at $20 that does NOT guarantee lunch. This fantastic opportunity is being provided to you by volunteers from the Pittsburg Farmers' Market, Southwind and Wildcat Extension Districts of K-State Research and Extension, County Farm Bureau Associations of Southeast Kansas, and Kansas Department of Agriculture. The registration form is attached to this email or available on the Pittsburg Farmers' Market facebook page. We hope to see many of our neighboring areas market vendors there!

We are now partnered with From the Land of Kansas (www.fromthelandofkansas.com), a trademark program with the goal of helping businesses that grow, produce, process, or manufacture products in Kansas. In addition, the programs works with and supports restaurants using Kansas products and retailers selling Kansas products and ingredients. Their trademark provides a consistent way to identify Kansas agriculture-based products. All items are produced or handmade by local market producers and within 75 miles of Pittsburg, Kansas, meaning that the person selling the products also made or grew the product. If you have ANY questions about the contents, the construction, or any chemicals involved – ask the producer directly.

Shoppers may use credit or debit cards, Vision cards, or cash. To use credit, debit, or Vision cards, shoppers need to go to the Information Booth and get tokens that are accepted by all Pittsburg Farmers' Market vendors. The tokens are specifically marked for Vision purchases or cash purchases. Vision cards may only be used on non-prepared food items. If you have any questions on this process, ask any of the vendors or the Information Booth attendant.

Kansas Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program provides vouchers to many Kansas Senior Citizens for use AT farmers' markets. Vendors who are signed up with the program have a sign displayed for shoppers to see. Vouchers must be used with an approved vendor (displaying the sign) to purchase fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, herbs, and honey.

Pittsburg Farmers' Market would like to invite musicians, traditional crafters, artists, cooks, grill masters, performers, clubs, groups, non-profit organizations/clubs to use our Community Booth.
