PSU Baseball to Face Newman Tuesday

The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Wichita, Kan., Tuesday (Mar. 11) to face Newman University in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CDT) at McCarthy Field.

The Gorillas enter Tuesday's action with a 5-10 record. Pitt State will seek to halt a four-game slide after the Gorillas were swept in an MIAA series last weekend against the University of Central Missouri.

The Jets are 8-8 overall entering a Monday game against the University of Texas-Permian Basin. Newman split a doubleheader against UTPB Sunday, claiming a 4-0 win before dropping a 12-2 decision in the nightcap.

Senior outfielder Cody Ball leads the Gorillas with a .432 batting average. He has hit three home runs, scored 10 runs and compiled 12 RBIs. Senior utility player Kyle Dickens also hit hitting .292 with 10 runs scored, a team-leading four home runs and 13 RBIs. As a team, the Gorillas have a .276 batting average and a 7.79 team ERA.

Newman is hitting .294 as a team and averaging 5.8 runs per game. The Jets have a 5.05 team ERA.
