NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CHEROKEE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

On Tuesday, March 11, 2014, a local resident notified the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office that he had located his 1999 GMC Truck in a field north of Riverton. He had reported the truck stolen in the City of Columbus the previous day.

Sheriff's Deputies arrived in the area and arrested Nola Smith, 28, of Cherokee, on allegations of Possessing Stolen Property and Interference with Law Enforcement.

During the course of the investigation, it was believed that another suspect was still at large.

Law enforcement conducted a search, and notified residents in the area, but was unable to locate any additional suspects during that time.

However, as the investigation progressed, the Sheriff's Office gained information about the identity of the suspect, and he was apprehended on Wednesday, March 12th, 2014 in Riverton.

The suspect, identified as Micah James Wisek, 41, of Galena, is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail on four felony warrants from Jasper County, Missouri for Burglary, Theft, Forgery, Receiving Stolen Property and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. In addition, Wisek is being held on allegations of Residential Burglary, Two Counts of Felony Theft, Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of Methamphetamine and Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Property.

The new allegations stem from an investigation into a residential burglary near the area where the stolen GMC Truck was discovered. Upon Wisek's arrest, he was found to be in possession of suspected stolen property and methamphetamine.

At this time, both suspects remain in the Cherokee County Jail. Smith is being held in lieu of $4,000.00 bond and Wisek is being held without bond.
