Softball Opens Conference Play This Weekend

Pittsburg - This Pittsburg State softball team will open MIAA play this weekend as the team travels for doubleheaders with Northeastern State on Friday (March 14) and Central Oklahoma on Saturday (March 15).

The RiverHawks are 15-7 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play. The team earned a sweep, 10-0 and 6-2, over Lincoln last weekend, and split with Lindenwood, with each team winning by a 3-1 score.

Northeastern State's hitters are led by five players hitting over .300 for the season. Madison Reed's leads that group with a .417 average and 21 runs scored. Madison Boyd hits .354 and is the team's RBI leader with 23. Saharra Henson leads the team in extra base hits with seven doubles and three home runs. She hits .364. 

Kayce Wooldridge has seen the most time in the pitching circle for the RiverHawks, having thrown 66.2 innings. She has a 7-3 record and a 2.00 ERA. She has struck out 40 batters and walked only 12.

Central Oklahoma is 13-7 overall and 4-0 in MIAA play. The team earned sweeps over Lindenwood (7-0, 9-1) and Lincoln (9-0, 5-0) in its opening conference weekend. The Bronchos hit .343 as a team.

Six players hit over .300 for the Bronchos, led by Kaylee Brunson with a .423 average and 21 runs scored. Brunson is dangerous on the base paths, having stolen 20 bases on the season. Emily Ditmore and Ally Dziadula lead the team with 16 RBI a piece. Ditmore leads the team in extra base hits with six doubles, a triple and a home run. 

The Broncho pitching staff is led by Kalynn Shrock with a 9-4 record and a 1.45 ERA in 77.1 innings pitched. 

The Gorillas are 11-4 overall. Pitt State hits at a .311 clips as a team with a .519 slugging percentage. The Gorillas have hit 18 home runs on the season and rank 10th in NCAA Division II in home runs per game. The Pitt State pitching staff has a 2.78 ERA and hold opponents to a .270 batting average.

Tiffany Brown paces the Gorilla hitters with a .500 batting average. She has hit 10 home runs on the season and ranks fourth in the nation. She has 28 RBI and a 1.196 slugging percentage, both seventh-best in the nation. McKenzie Rynard, the reigning MIAA Hitter of the Week, hits at a .375 clip. Nicole Nease, Brenna George and Bailey Letts all also hit above .3-- for the Gorillas. George is second in runs scored with 17 and leads the team with eight stolen bases on the season.

Sam Grove anchors the Gorilla pitching staff with a 7-0 record and a 1.29 ERA.  Haleigh Sills, Kylie Harpst and Tiffany Brown round out the pitching staff. Sills has a 3-2 record, Harpst is 1-1 and Brown is 0-1.
