Gorillas Enjoy Solid Day One Experience at Nationals

Four Pittsburg State University track & field athletes garnered All-America honors in day one action at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships Friday (Mar. 14).

Junior Jeff Piepenbrink brought home a national runner-up finish in the men's pole vault to start the day's action at JDL Fast Track. The Jasper, Mo., native cleared 16-feet, 8.75 inches in the discipline to finish behind only Texas A&M-Kingsville's Jordan Yamoah (17-0.75).

Freshman Heather Glenn also earned All-America honors in the women's pole vault. The Liberty, Mo., tied for fourth place after clearing 12-1.5.  Senior Steven Mann placed fifth overall in the men's long jump with a mark of 24-2.25.

Senior Jessica Macy rounded out the Gorillas All-America performances. She raced to a third-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 09.08 seconds.

Sophomore Andre Sanders advanced to Saturday's finals of the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.00. He posted the eighth-fastest time in the event.

Junior Ramie Grayson finished 17th in the women's long jump. She fouled twice after posting a mark of 17-4.25 on her first jump.

The Pitt State men finished day one in sixth place with 12 points. Adams State holds the early lead with 29 points. The Pitt State women sit in a tie for fifth place in the team standings with 10 points. Grand Valley State leads with 25 points.

    At about 11:30 pm, April 21st, a vehicle crashed into the front door of Erie High School. According to USD 101 Superintendent Steve Wolf, a 16-year-old male from St. Paul drove a pickup truck through the hallways of the school. The incident damaged doorways, walls, furniture and the antique Richey's Drug Store soda fountain. The Erie Police Department arrested the teen at the scene. School officials are working to get the scene cleaned up in time for class on Monday. h...More >>
