Benjamin Baker, 31, of Joplin, Missouri has plead not guilty to a shooting that sent one man to the hospital.  Baker is charged with felony 1st degree assault following a shooting the evening of March 14.

Baker's arraignment was Tuesday in Jasper County court.

According to court documents Baker contacted Tierra Marcum to come get her daughter at his home on 16th and Grand.  On arrival, Baker and Marcum got into an argument regarding Marcum's daughter.  Authorities say Justin Myers, 29, who had stayed in the vehicle, ran up to Baker and punched him.  Baker fell into his home, then grabbed a .410 gauge shotgun.

Authorities say Myers entered the home and tried to wrestle the shotgun from Baker.  After wrestling over the shotgun, the two separated, and Baker fired one shot, hitting Myers in the abdomen.  Baker attempted to administer first aid until EMS personnel arrived and took him to an area hospital

At last report Myers was listed in serious condition.
