Smoke-free trend among Joplin businesses - KOAM TV 7

Smoke-free trend among Joplin businesses

Updated:
Some Joplin businesses have started a trend of going smoke-free.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri has the ninth highest smoking rate in the country and the State Capitol currently still has a smoking section.
The Kitchen Pass Restaurant & Bar in Joplin has been entirely smoke-free since Feb. 1 of this year.
Other businesses such as Granny Shaffer's Restaurant and Club 609 have extended their smoke-free hours.
According to business owners, these changes have proven to be positive.
"We're still in the works with it, but the good comments are way out weighing the negative comments," said Mike Pawlus, Owner of Wilder's Steak House and Kitchen Pass Restaurant & Bar.  "We're starting to actually see smokers wander back in."
Some business owners hope the City of Joplin will also eventually follow with a city-wide non-smoking ordinance.
