PSU Men 14th, Women 21st @ NCAA-II Indoor Championships


Winston Salem, NC - The Pittsburg State University men's and women's track & field teams both notched top 25 finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships Saturday (Mar. 15).

The Pitt State men compiled 14 points to finish in 14th place, while the Gorillas women posted a 21st-place finish after scoring 10 points in the meet. St. Augustine's edged Adams State, 84.5 to 83, to claim the men's national championship, while Adams State captured the women's title by eight point (67-59) over second-place Johnson C. Smith.

In Saturday's final day action, sophomore Andre Sanders posted Pitt State's lone All-America performance. Sanders was clocked in 8.06 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to place seventh overall.

Sophomore Marquise Cushon fouled twice in the men's triple jump, while sandwiching a mark of 47-feet, 3-inches in-between. He placed 13th overall in the discipline.

Sophomore Cassie Caswell finished 15th in the women's shot put with a best mark of 45-7.25.

On the oval, senior Adam Volkert placed 14th in the men's 3,000 meters in 8:41.31 and senior Jessica Macy finished 18th in the women's 3,000 meters in 10:03.94.
