Softball Drops Two to Central Oklahoma

Updated:

Edmond, OK - The Pittsburg State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Central Oklahoma on Saturday (March 15). The Gorillas lost by scores of 7-3 and 6-2.

Pitt State falls to 11-8 overall and 0-4 in league play, while Central Oklahoma improves to 16-7 overall and remains unblemished in MIAA play, 7-0.

Pitt State scored its three runs off seven hits and one Central Oklahoma error. Central Oklahoma scored seven runs on 10 hits and two Gorilla errors.

McKenzie Rynard led the team with a 2-for-3 game with a walk, a triple, a run and two RBI.

Central Oklahoma scored all seven of its runs before the Gorillas were able to push one across. The Bronchos scored three runs in the first, one in the third and another three in the fourth.

Pitt State finally got its offense going in the top of the fifth. Jordan Bradshaw drew a walk to lead off the game. Brenna Georga and Bailey Letts followed with back-to-back base hits. With one out, Nicole Nease hit into a fielder's choice that left her safe and the bases loaded, but Bradshaw was thrown out at home for the second out of the inning. Rynard drew a bases loaded walk to score George for the first PSU run of the game.

After a fruitless sixth, the Gorillas put two more runs on the board in their half of the seventh. Tiffany Brown started the inning with a base hit. She came home on a one-out triple by Rynard. Rynard then scored on a base hit by Alex Perez.

Sam Grove pitched the complete game in only her second loss of the season. Only six if the seven runs she gave up were earned. She walked one batter and struck out one.

In game two, the Gorillas fell 6-2. Pitt State had six hits and committed two errors. The Bronchos tallied seven hits.

Brown and George led Pitt State with two hits a piece. Each scored a run, while Brown also added an RBI and a home run.

Haleigh Sills started the game and pitched three innings in the loss. None of the runs she gave up were earned. She gave up all seven hits, struck out two batters and walked one. Kylie Harpst threw the remaining three innings. She did not allow a hit, struck out three batters and walked only one.

Pitt State scored first in the opening inning. George led off the game with a base hit. She moved to second on a Letts ground out. A two-out base hit by Rynard brought George home for the first run of the game.

Central Oklahoma scored two runs in the second and four in the third to go up 6-1.

Tiffany Brown hit a solo home run to lead off the sixth and score the final run of the game.

Pitt State will take the field on Wednesday (March 19), as the team will host Lincoln in an MIAA doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
