NEWS RELEASE FROM THE JOPLIN POLICE DEPARTMENT

Joplin Police Department Post DWI checkpoint results

On Saturday March 15th, 2014 the Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Taskforce and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint on North Main near Ozark Christian College.

The goals of the checkpoint were to:
1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of Driving while intoxicated or impaired.
3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.

The check point was in service from 9:45 pm to 1:30 am. Sunday morning
706 drivers were contacted
16 field sobriety test were conducted on subjects

10 Total arrest were made including
6-DWIs
29-total tickets
40-warnings
1-marijuana

This checkpoint was funded through a grand provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.

    The Young Professional Network, a subgroup of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, is taking its mission of encouraging recycling to the Joplin High School construction site. The group arranged for four recycling bins to be placed on site so that furniture companies and other contractors can use them to dispose of cardboard.     Montgomery County (KS) - Montgomery County Sheriff Robert Dierks announced today that two suspects of recent Burglary were apprehended by Deputies today. The first suspect was taken into custody at Ashcraft Tire in Independence. The 2nd suspect was apprehended a short time later on North 5th Street after he attempted to elude Deputies.
