Joplin designated a Purple Heart City

Updated:
The Joplin City Council passed a resolution Monday night, designating Joplin as a Purple Heart City.

The proclamation is a way of honoring the sacrifices of those in the community who were either wounded or killed in combat, while serving to protect our country.

"To say your city is recognized as a Purple Heart designated city, I don't know. How do you put that into words the sacrifice that they gave for our country? Any honor that you can give them is not enough," said Joplin Mayor, Melodee Colbert-Kean

Joplin is now the 15th city in Missouri to receive the designation.
