Kansas Special Olympics selects KOAM and Fox 14 as Outstanding Business of the Year

Updated:
The President of Kansas Special Olympics, Chris Hahn, has informed us that KOAM and Fox 14 has been selected as their Outstanding Business of the Year.

"There is no doubt that KOAM TV and Fox 14 news have helped changed peoples' views on individuals with intellectual disabilities," Hahn says in a letter to KOAM General Manager Danny Thomas.

Hahn says a story by Rudy Harper on the New Hope Bulldogs Flag Football team has been shown throughout the nation.  He also says our efforts have helped the Polar Plunge in Pittsburg raise close to $100,000 over the past 5 years.

KOAM and Fox 14 will be recognized on June 6 at the Opening Ceremony of the State Summer Games in Wichita.

Dear Mr. Thomas,

Making a Difference award Outstanding Business 2013

Congratulations! It is a pleasure for me to let you know that KOAM TV/FOX 14 has been selected Outstanding Business of the Year for Special Olympics Kansas. This Distinguished Service Award recognizes a company or organization whose contributions have significantly impacted our programs, competitions and athlete experiences.

KOAM TV/FOX 14 has done an incredible job of promoting Special Olympics events in Southeast KS. You have covered events, torch run activities and fundraiser's. In particular, our Polar Plunge in Pittsburg. For the past 5 years you filmed and ran a commercial that has helped us raise close to $100,000. KOAM allowed two reporters to cover the New Hope Bulldogs Flag Football team in Lincoln NE for 3 days and created videos that have been used throughout KS. The videos have also been sent nation-wide through Special Olympics Inc. telling the story of Chevi and Cody. There is no doubt that KOAM TV and Fox 14 news have helped changed peoples' views on individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We will recognize our Award Winners on June 6th, 7:00 p.m. at the Opening Ceremony of our State Summer Games in Wichita, KS. Our Communications Department will be in touch with you regarding details.

We are deeply grateful for your support and generosity. Your commitment has touched thousands of lives, athletes, coaches, volunteers and families of Special Olympics all across our great state. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of Special Olympics Kansas, again, congratulations on a well-deserved recognition to KOAM TV/FOX 14.

Sincerely,
Chris Hahn
President/CEO

Although these students are too young to vote, they're plenty old enough to care about issues our country is facing today. "Ever since Parkland happened, the shooting at Park Land. I've always had this mentality, like it can happen here" Erie High School sophomore, Matthew Inman attended the Pittsburg March For Our Lives rally, and one of the leaders encouraged people from all congressional districts to hold town hall meetings, the spirit of activism was contagious.
