Travelers along Murphy Boulevard in Joplin will soon have another option to go between 20th Street and 4th Street as work begins on a Shared Use Trail Project.
The two-mile trail will consist of a 10 foot wide concrete path for walkers and bikers to use.
The contract for construction is just under $400,000 and is funded by a Community Development Block Grant, Disaster Relief Funds, and partially by the Parks and Storm Water Sales Tax that Joplin voters renewed in August 2011.
"We're excited about adding two miles to the pedestrian and bike trail system and I think it will be a great addition to the transportation system in Joplin," says David Hertzberg, the Project Manager for the Community Development Block Grant.
Murphy Boulevard will remain open for the majority of the project.
The trail is expected to be completed by June.
