Joplin Family YMCA launches 2014 annual campaign to support community needs

Updated:

NEWS RELEASE

Joplin, MO, March 24, 2014 – The Joplin Family YMCA is launching its annual campaign on Thursday, April 3, to ensure that everyone in the Joplin community has access to vital community programs and resources that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Every day, the Joplin Family YMCA works to support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing community issues, such as school readiness, chronic diseases and food insecurity. Additionally, the Joplin Family YMCA continues to play a role in identifying and meeting the long-term recovery needs stemming from the 2011 tornado.

“Throughout Joplin, countless people know the Y. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think,” said Kim Gray, Development Director, Joplin Family YMCA. “The Y is more than a gym: It’s a cause. As a charity, we’re dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being, and giving back and providing support to our neighbors.”

This year, the Joplin Family YMCA hopes to raise $85,000. Funds raised will support financial assistance to low-income families, children and seniors to access the character-building programming offered by the Y.

Last year, charitable gifts from YMCA donors made it possible for over 500 kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence and for 990 families to reconnect and grow together.

A COMMUNITY SUPPORT CAMPAIGN kick-off event will take place on Thursday, April 3, at 4:00pm at Victory Ministries, 3405 Hammonds Blvd., and will feature a keynote speech by Rudy Farber of Community Bank and Trust, and the first official donation to the campaign by Southwest Missouri Bank.

To learn more about how you can support the Y’s cause, please contact Kim Gray, Development Director at 417 623 4597, or visit www.joplinfamilyy.org for more information.
