Jeronimus Named WBCA All-America

Updated:
Press Release PSU:

Pittsburg State junior forward Lizzy Jeronimus has been recognized as one of the top 10 players in the country as she was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Division II Coaches' All-America Team.

The 10 member WBCA All-America team is selected by a panel of coaches from each of the eight Division II regions and a chariperson from among the players who earned first-team all-region honors. The top 10 vote getters are named to the All-America team, while the remaining players earn honorable mention All-American status.

This is the first such award for Jeronimus, who earned honorable mention All-America honors each of the last two seasons. She is also the first player in the history of Pittsburg State women's basketball to earn this high honor. Previous Gorilla women's basketball All-Americans Leslie Dudley, Jenni Miller, Dani Fronabarger, Janet Clasen and Ann Woloszyk earned honorable mention honors, while Kelly Krumsick was a third-team NAIA All-American.

Jeronimus finished this season averaging 18.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. She shot .461 from the floor and .838 from the free throw line. She scored in double figures in 28 games this season and 20-points or more in 15 games and 30-plus points once. Her 580 points this season are the second most in a season in school history, second only to Leslie Dudley's 597 points in 1998. She made 217 free throws this season, setting a school record for free throws made. For her efforts, Jeronimus earned first-team All-MIAA and first-team Central Region honors from both the WBCA and Daktronics.

The Lenexa, Kan. native also continued to work her way up the Pitt State career lists. She currently has 1,600 career points, which puts her fourth on the career scoring list. She also ranks among the top 10 active career scorers in the country and is the top ranked junior. Jeronimus is also fourth on the all-time rebounding list with 611 career rebounds. She is ninth in career assists and is only the second player in school history to rank in the top 10 for career scoring, rebounding and assists.

"I am incredibly humbled to receive this award," Jeronimus said. "I am honored to be recognized by coaches throughout the country. It is especially humbling to know I am the first at Pitt State to receive this honor, knowing that there have been many great players before me. I know that I could not be the player I am without the faith that my coaches put in me and the help of my teammates. This was a great season for us and I am excited to see what we can accomplish next year."
