Healthcare Officials, "Allergies are Back and More Potent."

Updated:
Allergy sufferers in the 4-states could be facing a bad allergy season.

Medical officials say the dramatic change in weather could be to blame.

Dr. Robert McDonald with Mercy Hospital in Joplin tells KOAM and Fox 14 Reporter Rudy Harper - Elm, Cedar and Maple are already showing a high pollen count on the allergy chart for this time of year.

Last year pollen counts were lower than they are now, due to the colder temperatures that stuck around.

Dr. McDonald says if you're already suffering from allergies you should treat yourself now rather than later.

"If you know you're an allergy suffer I would start taking the medications right now today if you haven't started already - that way the medication will have some time in your system as allergies start producing more," said Dr .McDonald.
