NEWS RELEASE FROM MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

Joplin, MO (SNS) – For the second year in a row, a student from Missouri Southern State University has won the grand prize in the Study Missouri Photo Contest.

Kaylan Jones, a junior art major from Chicago, will be honored on Wednesday, April 2, during International Education Day in Jefferson City. She will receive a $350 check and her photo of an accordion player on the Paris Metro will be displayed in the Capitol Rotunda throughout the day.

Matthew Holland, a senior general studies major from Joplin, won first place in the Study Abroad Photo Contest.

He will receive a $200 check and his photo will also be displayed in the Capitol Rotunda. His photo was taken in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, a well-preserved medieval town.

Clayton Shilling, who graduated in May with a degree in international studies, won the grand prize in 2013 for a photo taken in Nuremburg, Germany.

More than 400 college and university students representing 75 countries will participate in International Education Day. They will observe legislative sessions, visit with lawmakers representing the districts where they study, and hear speakers from the General Assembly and Missouri Chamber of Commerce.

The annual event is organized by Study Missouri, a group of 40 Missouri colleges and universities organized to showcase and encourage cultural exchange and study abroad opportunities. Chad Stebbins, director of MSSU’s Institute of International Studies, is the past president of Study Missouri.
