Public invited to Gay Marriage Ban forum, April 8 at NEO

Public invited to Gay Marriage Ban forum, April 8

Miami, Oklahoma – Friday, March 28, 2014 – The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT), Club at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO), will host a discussion with a question and answer session concerning the gay marriage issue in Oklahoma. The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in Commons Hall auditorium. With the recent federal decision concerning the overturning of the gay marriage ban, this topic has been in the news often. Realizing there may be many questions and concerns about religious and legal issues, LGBT will host a forum that provides information and a way to ask questions concerning religious and legal issues.

The public forum will provide a brief review of the legal history of this issue presented by panelist Martin Lively, attorney and adjunct instructor, panelist Rev. David Wheeler from the United Methodist Church in Miami, and panelist Wade Blevins, Cherokee Tribal member will be present to field questions. As part of this process, the public is invited to attend this forum.

    After reviewing the Kansas Highway Patrol's investigation, the Cherokee County Kansas Attorney will not file charges against the driver of the van. On May 8th, 2018, two cyclists from Germany were riding on Highway 66 near mile marker 1.8 when they were hit by a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van. The cyclists, 71-year-old Heinz Gerd Buchel and 74-year-old Harry Jung, died at the scene. The highway patrol report states that the van was traveling west in the right lane of K-66 wh...
