St. Charles, MO - Lindenwood University won a pair of tightly contested baseball games against Pittsburg State University Saturday (Mar. 29) at the Lou Brock Complex.
The Lions (13-17, 10-9 MIAA) claimed a 6-5 victory in game one with a walkoff grounder and then held on for a 4-2 win over the Gorillas (13-16, 10-13 MIAA) in the nightcap. The two teams will wrap up a four-game MIAA series with a final game at 12 Noon Sunday (Mar. 30).
Pitt State fell behind 5-1 in game one before battling back to knot the score at 5-5 in the fifth inning.
Ian Robinson had a two-run double that drew the Gorillas within 5-3 in the fourth inning. Derek Hackney doubled and scored on Brad Foss' RBI single in the fifth and Cody Ball drove in Foss with the tying run a batter later.
In the seventh inning, LWU's Nick Kolley singled to open the frame against Ryan McKay (1-3), was bunted to second and advanced to third on Wade Rothermich's single. He came home with the winning run on Jerry Roam's RBI grounder.
In game two, the Lions broke open a 2-2 game with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and LWU starter Austin Klein made that lead stand up. Klein (4-1) scattered six hits in the complete-game win.
Kyle Dickens went 2-for-3 in the game for Pitt State. Cort Lesmeister (3-2) went the distance in the loss.
