NEWS RELEASE FROM VIA CHRISTI HOSPITAL
PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 31, 2014) – Committed to the highest quality patient care and safety, Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg displayed those characteristics during a rigorous and unannounced survey by The Joint Commission (TJC). At the end of the visit that involved six surveyors over the course of three days, Via Christi Hospital was recognized with delivering excellent patient care and earned accreditation from The Joint Commission for the hospital.
“This is a tribute to our physicians, nurses and all employees who serve our ministry,” said Randy Cason, Via Christi Hospital Senior Administrator. “We make a commitment to provide this community with quality health care and a culture of safety, and that’s reflected in our Core Values.”
The Joint Commission is the predominate standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Accredited hospitals must comply with more than 300 nationally recognized standards and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to improving the safety and quality of the delivery of health care. Via Christi Hospital has earned accreditation consecutively since 1975.
“The surveyors are extremely thorough,” explained Carrie Amershek, Via Christi Hospital Director of Quality and Risk Management. “The Joint Commission team spent three days on site, not only at the hospital but also at Home Health and Home Medical. Surveyors can examine any area of the hospital and question any employee they meet during their stay.”
“We are very proud of the care people receive from our staff and their professionalism,” VCH-P Administrator of Patient Care & Nursing Julianna Rieschick said, “not just during the unannounced survey, but every day, for every patient, every time.”
The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
