The Pittsburg State University baseball team will host Missouri Southern State University in a non-conference game Tuesday (Apr. 1). First pitch is set for 4 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.
The game originally was scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday (Apr. 2) but an unfavorable midweek weather forecast prompted the Gorillas and Lions to move up the game by a day.
Pitt State will bring a 13-17 record into the contest. The Gorillas will look to halt a four-game losing streak. PSU was swept in four games over the weekend at St. Charles, Mo., by Lindenwood University, including three one-run losses.
Southern comes into the contest with an 18-12 record after sweeping a four-game weekend series against Southwest Baptist University at Joplin, Mo.
This will be the 87th all-time between between the Gorillas and the Lions. Southern holds a 53-33 advantage in the series, including a slight 24-23 edge in games played in Pittsburg. The two teams split a twinbill in Pittsburg last year with Pitt State recording a 5-0 win and Southern taking a 6-4 decision on Apr. 24, 2013.
The non-conference game will count in the 2013-14 Sonic Trophy Series match-up between the Gorillas and the Lions.
