Bearcats Break Away For 9-1 Win in Series Opener

Southwest Baptist University scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a 2-1 game en route to a 9-1 victory over Pittsburg State University in the series opener Friday (Apr. 4).
Cory Borsch (3-2) pitched the distance for the Bearcats, scattering five hits and four walks while fanning 11 Pitt State batters.
The win helped SBU (15-16, 12-12 MIAA) snap a five-game losing streak, while Pitt State (13-19, 10-15 MIAA) dropped its sixth consecutive contest.
Jacoby Martin and Brad Foss had two hits apiece for the Gorillas.
Ross Wolfe went 3-for-5 with three RBIs for SBU, while Spencer Blacksher scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
The Bearcats and Gorillas will return to Al Ortolani Field for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 5).
