Eleven Gorillas Garner MIAA Academic Awards for Basketball

Eleven Pittsburg State University basketball players – seven members of the women's team and four members of the men's squad – garnered MIAA Academic Honor Roll recognition today (Apr. 4).

Representing the Pitt State women's basketball program are: seniors Alexa Bordewick and Y'Cedria Devers, juniors Brigit Hesser, Lizzy Jeronimus and Hailey Roderique and sophomores Cathy Brugman and Kylie Gafford. Representing the Gorilla men's basketball program are: senior Ethan Cordray, junior Sam Pugh and sophomores Jake Bullard and Denton Hays.

To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Additionally, Bordewick, Brugman and Jeronimus all garnered MIAA Scholar Athlete honors as well. The MIAA Scholar Athlete Award is given to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and, if competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, earn All-MIAA honors.

Newcomers and MIAA Academic Excellence Awards will be given out following the end of the 2013-14 school year.
