Pitt State Alumni Office Holds Fishing Derby

Updated:

The Alumni Department at Pittsburg State University wanted to kick off spring the right way, with a Fishing Derby. Kids and their families gathered this morning at University Lake for a kids fishing derby. No license was required to fish, and kids could catch a variety of different fish ranging from catfish to perch.

Although the event was catch and release, no fisher went away empty handed.. Prizes were given away for the longest and most fish caught. Organizers say the event is aimed at bringing kids and families closer together during the spring season.

"We serve alumni and constituents, so we get the whole community involved, said the Assistant Director of PSU Alumni Relations, Meagan Swafford. "So you don't have to be an alumni, even though its an alumni and constituent event,  you don't have to be an alumni or your parents don't have to be an alumni...it's open to the whole community."

The fishing derby is just the first of family events for the alumni office. On May 16th, they'll be hosting a family movie night at the PSU Stadium, featuring the movie "Frozen."
