Men Win ESU/State Farm Relays, Women Place 6th

Emporia, KS - The Pittsburg State University men's outdoor track & field team turned in a dominating performance in winning the Emporia State University/State Farm Relays Saturday (Apr. 5), while the Gorilla women finished sixth among 20 competing schools.

The Pitt State men compiled 157 points to nearly double up the Gorillas' closest competitor -- MIAA rival Central Missouri (85.3 pts) in the 19-team field. The Gorilla women scored 33 points to finish behind Missouri Southern (60), Northwest Missouri (59), Emporia State (47), Coffeyville CC (38) and Oklahoma City (38).

The Pitt State men posted four individual event victories and recorded double-digit provisional qualifying marks on the day.

Jeff Piepenbrink won the pole vault (16-0.75, PQ), Garrett Appier won the shot put (56-3, PQ), Bo Farrow won the discus throw (168-2.5, PQ) and Marquel Nickens won the 400m hurdles (53.61, PQ).

James Carter III placed second in the 800m in 1:55.39, while the 400m relay also finished second in 41.12.

Steven Mann finished third in the long jump (24-1, PQ), Farrow placed third in the shot put (53-8.5, PQ), Cody Holland placed third in the discus (163-2.5, PQ) and Talon Thompson finished third in the 3,000 meters (8:59.16). Jordan Morton also placed fourth in the javelin throw (210-2, PQ).

For the women, Emilyn Dearman won the 400m hurdles in 1:02.44 (PQ), while Antqunita Reed finished second in the long jump (19-6, PQ) and the 200 meters (25.54).

Heather Glenn placed third in the pole vault (11-11.75, PQ) and D'Andria Blow finished third in the duscus (146-7.75, PQ). Casey Epps also placed third in the 3,000 meters (10:28.71).
