Parsons Historical Society Museum receives new historic railcars

The newest additions to the Parsons Historical Society Museum once traveled the Union Pacific Railroad.
Today, an 80-foot mail car and 75,000 lb. crane were moved, requiring a lot of effort.
The cars are now in place outside the museum where 150 feet of railroad track has been added so far.
The crane dates back to the early 20's and the mail car served as a workout car in the 1940's.
Museum staff members say the car is unique, as it was one of the few mail cars used for an exercise room.
"For 20 years, the Missouri Pacific Railroad used it for their section gang of people to exercise in, so it had treadmills in it, weights and all kinds of stuff," said Ken Ervin, Parsons Historical Society Museum.  "It had carpet, air conditioning and heating."
Tax credit donations to help fund the moving expenses of the railcars are being accepted at the the Parsons Historical Society Museum.
