Garave fire under investigation in Joplin

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported Structure Fire at 823 S Murphy at 9:05 PM Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 9:11 PM to find a detached garage fully involved. The garage was a total loss due to the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 9:18pm and out at 9:28 PM. Crews remained on scene until 10:57 PM.

Ownership information is unavailable at this time.

No injuries were reported to either fire personnel or others in the area. 4 Joplin Fire units and 12 Joplin Fire personnel responded.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation at the time of this writing.

    After reviewing the Kansas Highway Patrol's investigation, the Cherokee County Kansas Attorney will not file charges against the driver of the van. On May 8th, 2018, two cyclists from Germany were riding on Highway 66 near mile marker 1.8 when they were hit by a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country van. The cyclists, 71-year-old Heinz Gerd Buchel and 74-year-old Harry Jung, died at the scene. The highway patrol report states that the van was traveling west in the right lane of K-66 wh...
