NEWS RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE UNIVERSITY

Arcuino selected for Fulbright program in Japan

Cathy Lee Arcuino, director of Pittsburg State University’s Office of International Programs, has been selected to participate in a Fulbright Scholar Program International Education Administrators seminar in Japan in June. Arcuino will join a select group of administrators from U.S. universities for the intensive, two-week program.

The program is designed to familiarize U.S. higher education administrators with Japan's higher education system, society and culture. While in Japan, the American educators will visit campuses, attend cultural events, and meet with Japanese government officials and international education professionals.

Arcuino, who lived in Japan for a year and has since returned for a visit, said she expects a very different kind of experience as a Fulbright scholar.

“One of the main purposes of the program is to learn more about the Japanese higher educational system and share this information with our institution and community,” Arcuino said. “As international educators, this cross cultural exchange gives us an opportunity to recognize the similarities and explore the differences between our educational systems.”

The Fulbright Scholar Program is administered by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. It is named after Sen. William J. Fulbright, who served in Congress for more than 30 years and has the distinction of holding the record as the longest-serving chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
